Central Peninsula Garden Club Monthly Program: The History of the Plants We Eat and Why it Matters for the Alaskan Gardener
Name: Central Peninsula Garden Club Monthly Program: The History of the Plants We Eat and Why it Matters for the Alaskan Gardener
Date: November 14, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM AKST
Have you ever stopped to wonder Why do we eat what we eat? How did THOSE plants become our food supply? Where in the world did they come from? And how does a plant’s place of origin inform our decisions of what we plant today, in Alaska, and how? For our November program, our own Garden Club super-star Velma Bittick will give a presentation on “The History of the Plants We Eat and Why it Matters for the Alaskan Gardener.” Tuesday, November 14, 7:00 pm. As you think ahead to planning for next year’s growing season, Velma’s presentation will not only be fascinating brain fodder, but it will also help you make better decisions as you peruse all those seed catalogues. Raised on a large farm, Velma Bittick is a master gardener and local gardening expert. Velma currently grows produce and berries with her husband Tom at Arena Valley Acres. She is a former CPGC board member and frequent presenter at CPGC events. You may have been the lucky recipient of one of her winter squash as a door prize at one of our CPGC monthly meetings. Free and open to the public. Refreshments and sometimes door prizes. Membership and general club information is available at www.cenpengardenclub.org, on facebook, or contact Renae Wall, firstname.lastname@example.org.
