Event Description:
What are those creepy, crawly things in your garden with you? Learn about them before they show up! The Central Peninsula Garden Club’s April 11 program is “Uninvited Guests: What to Expect from Insects and other Small Creatures Dwelling in Your Garden.” Guest speaker Matt Bowser will introduce some of the insects, slugs, and worms that should matter to Central Peninsula gardeners, including the gray garden slug, the turnip root fly, the seed corn maggot, yellow jackets, the large yellow underwing, earthworms, and aphids. Matt will also discuss some control methods. Question and answer session to follow. Matt Bowser currently serves as entomologist at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. He earned an M.S. in Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a B.S. in entomology from the University of Florida. Bowserr is a founding member of and remains active in the Alaska Entomological Society. Free and open to the public. Refreshments and sometimes door prizes.
