Advanced Beekeeping Techniques
Name: Advanced Beekeeping Techniques
Date: April 8, 2017
Time: 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM AKDT
This class will expand on our Beginning Beekeeping and take a closer look into some of the more in depth aspects of managing a hive. Students will learn about swarm behavior, bee yard and harvest efficiency, extracting and processing honey, as well as wintering over a hive. Linda will also teach students about common troubleshooting such as how to control Varroa mite infestation and keep your bees happy and healthy! Prerequisites: Preferably one year experience with beekeeping or having taken Beginning Beekeeping. Linda Gorman met a beekeeper in 2003 and he introduced her to bees and all their health benefits. Because her allergies got better by eating pollen and honey, she decided to keep a hive. She was mentored by two longtime beekeepers for a couple of years. She read everything she could on keeping bees and talked to anyone she met that was a beekeeper. One summer she had 8 hives. She has mentored many keepers here in the Homer area over the past 5 years and is thrilled to share her knowledge with others.
